FAQ
What is your cancellation policy?
Reservations cancelled up to 30 days before your date of arrival are fully refundable minus any credit card processing fees, which are typically 3%. Reservations cancelled up to 7 days before your date of arrival are 50% refundable minus any credit card processing fees. Reservations cancelled within 7 days of arrival are non-refundable.
Is your location walkable?
Yes, we are located on Columbia Street, one block from Warren Street and just off 3rd Street, near the center of town. We are less than two minutes’ walk from the Maker and about a ten minute walk to the train station and the Wick. You will find shopping and restaurants on Warren Street immediately at hand. It is not necessary to have a car here if you are visiting for the weekend.
What about parking?
Street parking is usually available in front of the building, and one spot per house is also available behind the building, beyond the garden gate, in our private parking area, which is accessible by car from the alley north of Columbia Street. Please note that alternate side parking rules are in effect on Thursday nights from 9pm until 8am Friday morning.
Is the place ok for kids?
We do not recommend a stay at Hej Hej for children between walking age and six years old. The house is not childproofed—stairs are un-gated, outlets are unprotected, and some furnishings, such as the dining tables, include unsecured glass tops that may pose a physical risk to small children. We do however provide a pack-n-play for infants, and we are happy to consult with you about whether you and your child may be comfortable here, depending on your expectations and needs. Please note that we do not allow children to be left in the house with a babysitter who is not a registered member of the group staying in the house.
What amenities are provided?
You’ll find everything you might expect from a nice hotel and then some: quality linens, ample toilet paper, hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, shower soap, tissues, and vanity items like cotton tips and cotton balls. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking with pots, pans, tablewares, and pantry basics (sugar, salt, pepper, oil, spices). We provide coffee beans, a bean grinder, tea, oat milk, and granola. We also provide a Nespresso machine and pods, as well as a drip coffee maker and a French press. Kitchen appliances include an induction range and hood, a refrigerator and ice maker, a wine refrigerator, a microwave, a full-size oven, and a dishwasher. We provide a blender and a hand mixer. The wi-fi is fast 1GB fiber and is distributed throughout the house by a wireless mesh. A large television upstairs is available to connect your streaming services. The house is heated and cooled with efficient ceiling and wall mounted split units that are controlled via individual thermostats so that guests can achieve different temperatures within their bedrooms. There are two rear balconies overlooking the shared garden—one off the main floor queen bedroom and the other off the upstairs salon, where the television is also located. Laundry machines are available in the shared laundry room on the basement level. Detergent provided.
What to do and where to eat?
In the house, we provide a detailed guidebook for the house itself, the town, and the surrounding area. You can also find many recommendations here on our site under “Local Guide.”
What if we can't climb stairs?
There are two steps at the front stoop on the east side and three steps at the front stoop on the west side. Please note that there is no handrail on the front stoop, so these steps may be challenging for guests who have difficulty with walking and balance. Once guests ascend the exterior steps, there is a queen bedroom on the main floor that doesn’t require any additional stairs. There is a private balcony off this bedroom, and the connected bathroom has a walk in shower.
Are there any additional beds?
Each residence has two daybeds in the upstairs salon, which are used as sofas there. Bedding and linens are provided in these rooms, and it is possible for guests to sleep there, however we do strictly enforce limitations on the number of guests in each unit—six for the east side and four for the west side.
Do you allow pets?
No, we do not allow pets.
Is housekeeping available?
Yes, we can arrange housekeeping services during your stay for an additional charge.
